Baby Golden Retriever Puppy Settles in For an Adorable Nap After a Playful Day in the Park

Raising a golden retriever is a lot like raising a kid - it's a lot of work and you end up spending most of your time pulling things out of their mouths that they're not supposed to have. But as hard and sleepless as it is, you'll look back years later and miss those sweet, adorable puppy moments.

The puppy phase is both a magical experience and a nightmare. They are the cutest things you've ever laid eyes on and you can't imagine being more in love with something in your life. But, you hardly sleep, you are being bitten 24/7, and no matter how hard you try, some of them just don't have an "off" button. Because they grow up so fast, you can literally watch them mature day after day and see how their brains learn things in real time. It's one of the most gratifying and exhausting experiences you can have… but it's usually a lot harder than people think it is.

As you and your puppy start to learn how to live with each other, you find more and more moments of joy. The best one is, of course, when they are finally exhausted and they lie down for a nap.

Ah, sweet silence. No need to keep a constant eye on them, wonder why it's suddenly so quiet, or have to WWE-wrestle them to get a sock, shoe, or piece of garbage out of their mouths.

Hugo, our golden retriever puppy below, had a really fun day at the park. He ran around, played in the grass, met a bunch of people who thought he was the cutest puppy ever, and chased some butterflies. After all that excitement, his pawrent caught him stretching and settling in for a post-play nap, and it's the cutest thing I've seen all week. It might even be the cutest thing I've seen all month.

It's a good thing that evolution made them so outrageously cute because moments like these are the reason we want to go out and adopt another puppy this very instant.

We know that just a few pictures of sleepy Hugo isn't enough, so we went through the trouble of finding his most pawfect pictures to bring a smile to your face.
Aren't puppies just the cutest? Golden retriever puppies especially. They look like tiny flooffballs, or lightly toasted fuzzy marshmallows. Either way, we want to gobble them up with cuteness. If there was any animal that activated a universal cuteness aggression, it would be golden retriever puppies. We don't know a single person who doesn't switch into a baby voice and start swooning whenever they see one!

There is a thing that not a lot of people talk about, called the “puppy blues.” It happens to most puppy owners, where you feel massively overwhelmed by the responsibility of taking care of the puppy, you're exhausted, tired of being your dog's pawsonal chew toy, and wondering if you made the right decision in the first place.
